Influenza Campaign 2023 – Update
Influenza Vaccines Autumn 2023
The practice will be holding clinics for our registered patients starting with the week commencing 18-9-2023 by appointment only. The clinics will continue throughout Autumn 2023 and into next year. Please check below to ensure that you are still eligible for a free influenza vaccine as there have been some changes to the groups.
The Welsh Assembly Government (WAG) has provided guidance to practices that the following groups are eligible for a free influenza vaccine in the 2023/2024 campaign:
Patients aged 65 years of age and over (or who will be 65 by 31-3-2024)
Children aged 2-3 years of age (as at 31-8-2023)
Children in primary school from reception class to year 6 inclusive (school vaccination)
Children in secondary school from year 7 – 11 inclusive (school vaccination)
Patients aged under 65 years of age who are clinically at risk: patients diagnosed with COPD, asthma (as long as it requires regular inhaled steroids), chronic heart disease, chronic kidney disease (stage 3-5), chronic liver disease, chronic neurological disease (including Parkinson’s disease & motor neurone disease), learning disability, severe mental illness, diabetes, epilepsy, patients immunosupressed due to eg patients having treatment for cancer, patients diagnosed with AIDS/HIV. NB WAG has NOT routinely included in this year’s eligible groups all patients aged 50 years and over – only those who are clinically at risk
Household contacts of immunocompromised individuals
Patients without a spleen or dysfunction of the spleen
Morbidly obese patients aged 16 or over (defined as those with a BMI of 40 or above)
Carers (those who are unpaid carers, including young carers of a person whose health/welfare may be at risk if the carer falls ill)
Pregnant women (at any stage of pregnancy)
People living in care homes/other long-stay facilities
